Research Interests

Dr. Coronell’s research interests lie in basic and applied aspects of clean water and clean energy where membranes and granular sorbents play a central role. Currently, membrane research focuses on advancing the understanding of the mechanisms of transport of water, salts and other solutes through membranes, the development of new and improved membranes, and the optimization of membrane processes and systems. Sorbent research focuses on the study of the removal of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and natural organic matter from water and the impact that sorbent properties and operational conditions have on sorbent performance. Dr. Coronell is a professor and the associate chair for academics in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering and an adjunct faculty in the Department of Applied Physical Sciences.
